Property Tax

Property Assessment and Tax Notice

A combined property assessment and tax notice is mailed out in May of each year covering the period of January 1st to December 31st.  This notice will include the assessed value of your property, the municipal taxes, the Alberta School Foundation taxes, and the Heart River Housing taxes.  The tax payment is due by June 30th.

Methods of Payment

The following methods of payment are available:

  • at the Town Office by cash or cheque
  • by mail (must be postmarked on or before the due date do avoid penalties)
  • by internet or telephone banking (must be received at the bank on or before the due date to avoid penalties)
  • at ATB Financial or Caisse Horizon (must be received at the bank on or before the due date to avoid penalties)
  • by pre-authorized payment

Pre-authorized Tax Payment Plan

Pre-authorized tax payment plan is a monthly tax installment plan that allows taxpayers to make consecutive monthly tax payments rather than a single annual payment.  From January to May your monthly payments will be based on the previous year's levy divided into 12 equal payments.  When current taxes are levied in May, your monthly payments will be revised to reflect any changes in your taxes.  A notice informing you of the revised monthly amount will be included with your combined property assessment and tax notice.

To enroll in the pre-authorized tax payment plan a pre-authorized tax payment form must be completed and mailed along with a "VOIDED" cheque to:

Town of Falher
PO Box 155
Falher, AB  T0H 1M0

This form and "VOID" cheque must be received by the Town Office on or before December 31st.

Please note that all arrears must be paid in full to qualify for the monthly payment plan.

Tax Deadline

Taxes are due by June 30th of each year.  A penalty of 10% will be added on July 1st to all unpaid current taxes.  An additional penalty of 15% will be added on January 1st to all unpaid taxes.

If you are currently on a pre-authorized tax payment plan, your monthly payments will continue, full payment is not required by June 30th.
